Description of Oral Track Program

PHILOSOPHY AND METHODOLOGY: The communicative approachaims to involve students in authentic communication as often as possible, as well as to teach language learning strategies that can be applied outside of the classroom, in real-life situations. The inlingua method aims to maximize student time using English inside the classroom. Students learn English in interactive classes (using textbooks, workbooks, multimedia, and/or supplementary materials) in which English is used at all times to concentrate on teaching two skills: listening, and speaking. Lessons can include a variety of interesting speaking activities, such as questions and answers, pair work, games, and discussions and can involve drills, comprehension checks, question-answer tag teams, dialogues, role plays, educational games, multimedia activities, oral presentations, group projects, class celebrations and field trips, and homework to reinforce learning. Most importantly, the lessons are fun and interactive. They demand high participation from the students, so students will see their speaking skills and comprehension of the language improving at a fast rate! Through a carefully structured program, the books are closed for a large part of the lesson so that student can practice speaking and listening as much as possible. The textbooks and workbooks, as well as the audio CDs, provide plenty of exercises for students to improve their reading, writing, and listening. Exclusive Inlingua materials (books and CDs) are used for learning. This means our materials and special teaching method can be found nowhere else but at Inlingua.
GOAL OF THE ORAL TRACK PROGRAM: To provide students an opportunity to concentrate on practicing and improving speaking, listening, and pronunciation skills. The Oral Track program exposes students to a very controlled method of grammar correction in speech. This method of error correction is extremely effective in forcing students to ‘acquire and assimilate’ correctly spoken grammar, and help expose and correct ‘fossilized’ errors. The program also serves to help students who have fallen behind in their speaking skills. Generally as students move up through the levels, they fall behind in their speaking skills because they simply do not have as much opportunity to practice speaking, as they do reading and writing.
In these classes:
- Grammar and vocabulary are learned in the most natural way – by speaking, of course! New grammar structures and vocabulary are introduced orally, and students are given the maximum opportunity to speak and practice during class time. English is learned through a variety of interesting speaking activities, such as questions and answers, pair work, games, and discussions.
- Student talking time is maximized at every opportunity.
